The Mission
The Sapphire Marshall Breast Cancer Foundation was founded to reduce African American Breast Cancer disparities by 10% in 5 years in the Greater Cincinnati area, particularly in communities where economic disparities, food deserts, educational gaps, health care access, and discrimination are prevalent.
The Facts
According to research conducted by the Susan G Komen Foundation, African American women are more likely to die from breast cancer nearly 40% more than Caucasian women, are often diagnosed at later stages when treatments are limited, costly and the prognosis is poor and are often diagnosed younger and with more aggressive breast cancers.
The Walk
During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the foundation will sponsor its First Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk to support women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. The 5K walk is on Saturday, October 24, 2020. Registration will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the walk will start at 11:00 a.m. Participants will start at blaCk Coffee Lounge in downtown Cincinnati, continue through the scenic Covington and Newport Kentucky, and back to blaCk Coffee Lounge.
